The Project Application Developer role works within the IT Solutions Team to develop applications as required for a specific IT Solutions project. The Developer translates formal or informal software specifications into working code that meets the needs of the business users. The Developer advises the project team on the optimal configuration of both hardware and software, and on the most effective way to code the application to meet the business requirements. The Developer utilizes tools provided by Client to create or modify the applications, as required. The Developer is accountable for producing thoroughly documented code that meets the specifications, as well as thoroughly testing the code for defects or bugs in programming. The Developer is accountable for resolving any issues identified with the application¿s code that prevent it from meeting specifications or business requirements, as defined in the approved project documentation.


The key accountabilities for a Project Application Developer are: ¿ Advise IT in the design, development, and configuration of software solutions to meet business requirements ¿ Write code that conforms to project solution specifications defined by the project team ¿ Maintain or develop the skill level required for completing the project using Client¿s approved developer toolset ¿ Document all code developed for the project and ensure that it is placed in approved secure locations, as specified by Client ¿ Complete all programming within the timeframe established by the project schedule for these activities ¿ Follow Client¿s IT processes and policies regarding development, data management, security, and production change control The key duties and responsibilities of a Project Application Developer are: ¿ Thoroughly understand the requirements, solution architecture, solution design, and development needs for the project ¿ Apply technical skills to develop fully documented application code without bugs or defects that meet the requirements of the business users ¿ Conduct component and end-to-end testing of all code and deliverables prior to releasing software for user testing. ¿ Solve problems associated with the development effort. ¿ Resolve all identified bugs or defects found with the software that is produced within a reasonable timeframe ¿ Work with the IT Business Analyst to document and provide time estimates for enhancement requests or scope changes.


Education ¿ Undergraduate Degree (mathematics, computing science, or equivalent) ¿ Technical certifications optional Experience ¿ 5+ years of experience developing software applications in a project team environment ¿ Experience with the oil and gas industry is preferred ¿ Demonstrated experience utilizing the following software development platforms to deliver solutions or applications: ¿ Microsoft Office suite, including MS Access and Excel - required ¿ .NET - required ¿ SQL Server and/or Oracle - required ¿ Business Objects - required Knowledge ¿ Demonstrated expertise in software development on multiple platforms ¿ Demonstrated knowledge of the software development lifecycle ¿ Oil and gas business knowledge a plus Skills/Competencies ¿ Skilled with SQL-based database software design and development using Client¿s tools, which include Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Visual Basic for Applications, .NET, and Business Objects ¿ Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical project team members ¿ Demonstrated competency in testing software, including component, end-to-end, boundary, load, and regression testing ¿ Flexibility to work within a changing environment and to adjust priorities to meet the business demands
